Cliffnotes version:
The Meteor Crisis
➤ Former Turk (think government spook)
➤ Romantically involved with a scientist (Lucrecia Crescent) who he was assigned to bodyguard.
➤ Objected to human experimentation (The Jenova Project) after Lucrecia offered herself and her unborn child (Sephiroth) as subjects. Believed himself the father of Sephiroth* and opposed Lucrecia's involvement. Ultimately did nothing after Lucrecia told him that it was her decision.
➤ Following the birth of Sephiroth, Vincent brought his concerns to the lead scientist (Hojo) and was shot, genetically altered in off-the-book experiments, and sealed away for 23 years.
➤ Believing his early inaction to blame and his altered state a punishment, Vincent believed his only way to atone was to remain sealed- staying in isolation until he or the world ended.
➤ Awakened by his ex-partner Veld 22 years in. Refused to join him.
➤ Awakened by Cloud Strife. Told of Sephiroth's threat to the world, he doubles down on his belief of fault, and his isolation however does end up joining Cloud when told he could get revenge against Hojo.
➤ Learns Lucrecia is still alive and informs her that Sephiroth is dead.
➤ Maintains the belief that he is at fault and intends to return to his isolation when Sephiroth is subdued- until he confronts Hojo and learns of Sephiroth's true parentage.
➤ After Sephiroth is defeated, Vincent roams the world, alone- presumably returning to Lucrecia's cave periodically.
(* Not to be confused with "is the father". I do think Vincent believed he was Sephiroth's father in FF7 given the confrontation with Hojo at the Sister Ray. When Hojo reveals he is, in fact, the babydaddy, Vincent responds with: "I was... wrong. The one that should have slept was... you, Hojo!" )
On The Way To A Smile
➤ Vincent meets with Red XIII and agrees to meet him once a year.
The Geostigma Crisis
➤ Spies on the remnants of Sephiroth (Kadaj, Loz and Yazoo) after they arrive in the Forgotten City. Subsequently saves Cloud Strife from them. Vincent reveals Tseng and Elena, previously captured by the remnants and presumed dead, are actually alive.
➤ Cloud asks Vincent how he has atoned for his sin. Vincent responds that he didn't atone- but never had to.
➤ Rejoins Cloud and AVALANCHE in order to bring an end to the new threat. Fights Bahamut SIN with AVALANCHE and stops them from assisting Cloud in the fight against Kadaj- knowing that it is Cloud's fight.
➤ After the events of AC, continues to travel the world alone. Maintains contact with AVALANCHE.
The Deepground Crisis
➤ Vincent agrees to meet Reeve in Kalm. Kalm is attacked by deepground soldiers, who capture select civilians.
➤ Vincent is confronted by two Tsviets (Azul and Shelke) who demand something called a protomateria from him. Azul and Shelke retreat following the arrival of the WRO.
➤ Reeve tells Vincent that the WRO needs him, but Vincent refuses to get involved.
➤ Reeve "being killed" brings out both his concern, and acceptance. Secures Kalm with the WRO.
➤ Edge is now under attack. Reeve informs Vincent of deepground- and tells him of civilian disappearances in Junon.
➤ Vincent defends Reeve from an assassination attempt. Reeve asks him to liberate Edge. Vincent does so, stating that he has no choice in the matter.
➤ Vincent meets Shalua Rui. Vincent meets another Tsviet (Rosso) who demands the protomateria from him but is defeated when he transforms into Chaos.
➤ Vincent blacks out. He dreams of Lucrecia apologizing to him, and his shooting. He awakens in the WRO HQ, Shalua Rui having rescued him. Shalua asks if he is one of Lucrecia's experiments, which confuses Vincent. The WRO HQ is attacked. Vincent learns Shalua and Shelke are sisters.
➤ Vincent leaves the WRO in order to learn the truth of the experiments performed upon him at Nibelheim.
➤ Vincent finds a message left by Lucrecia, informing him of the true nature of Chaos and Omega. She also apologizes again. Vincent then blacks out, dreaming again of Lucrecia experimenting on him.
➤ Vincent is attacked by Rosso who tears the protomateria from his chest. He is rescued by Yuffie. They are attacked and return to the WRO HQ. There, Azul turns on Shelke and Shalua sacrifices herself to save her, entrusting her to Vincent.
➤ The WRO HQ is totalled. Vincent comforts Reeve.
➤ Shelke cannot understand why Shalua sacrified herself for her. Vincent tells Shelke that Shalua called her "her reason to live" and that the ability to care about someone that deeply is what makes someone human. Shelke experiences a memory of Lucrecia and Vincent together.
➤ AVALANCHE arrive to support the WRO. Vincent is tasked with killing the Tsviets.
➤ Vincent loses control of Chaos.
➤ Shelke offers Vincent guidance through deepground.
➤ Vincent encounters Rosso and defeats her. He prepares to enter deepground. Cloud calls him to inform him that contact has been lost with Cid's airship.
➤ Vincent defeats Azul. He loses control of Chaos during the battle, transforms, and impales Azul with his own gun. Vincent becomes fully aware of Lucrecia's experiments on him but lacks proper context.
➤ Vincent becomes a pirate or something idk. Escordvi time!
Personality:
1) Vincent is both a taciturn and a morose man- a closed book in every sense of the word. He favours silence and maintains a stern disclipline and a firm sense of control and keeps a tight lid on his emotions in all but the most trying of situations. Vincent does not confide in other people unless relaying information. He stays sharp and focused in most circumstances, pushing past his own emotion to act. Due to this, Vincent can be misunderstood as cold and uncaring.[1]
Vincent is a loner. He tends to keep himself to himself whenever he can. While Rebirth does a better job of showing this, in FF7 he stands a distance away from the group, often with his back turned. Vincent tends to keep others at an arm's distance due to his introverted nature. On The Way To A Smile, Episode Yuffie shows Vincent unexpectedly arriving, and leaving the group- coldly leaving with a "bye." AC shows Vincent did not maintain contact with the group after FF7. Dirge shows much of the same, even though by this point Vincent at least has a phone for emergency contact.
One would think from this, that Vincent does not care for his friends. However, this is wrong. Vincent has no qualms with caring deeply for those around him[2] and when Vincent does choose to speak on a metter, his words are well-considered, relaying something insightful or important to the situation at hand. Vincent has a few instances of wryness around those he cares for, which shows he has an affection for them.[3]
Vincent is not verbose. He's vague, allowing others to follow the thread of what he's saying and come to their own conclusions.[4] Vincent's key trait is that he percieves. He drops crumbs for other people when they're needed, but he doesn't lay down the law or take any sort of pleasure in being right. Vincent has no reservations about being the one to peptalk someone he cares for when all seems lost.[5]
[1] "It's just that you're always so cold. I thought you didn't care what was happening." -Cloud, FF7
[2] "You're really not a bad bloke, are ya Vincent? Ah, ye pretend not to care but ye always come through in the end!" - Cait Sith, Dirge
[3] i) (Yuffie hits her head) "Ow! Ow!" / "So where are we?" -Vincent / "Come on! Aren't you at least a little concerned?" -Yuffie / "Oh, Yuffie. It's been a while. How's your head?" -Vincent / "You-!" -Yuffie, Dirge
ii) "Reeve, nice to see you again. Not a very interesting outfit, though." - Vincent, Dirge
[4] "Kadaj is an avatar of Sephiroth. Think of him as a sort of larval form." -Vincent / "Wait, does Cloud know that?" -Tifa / "Probably." -Vincent / "Then you're right. This is Cloud's fight." - Tifa, AC
[5] "Don't take all the blame. You're not thinking of giving up, are you? I used to be nothing but a stone in the river of time, but three years ago, it was you and the others who taught me I had to move ahead." - Vincent, Dirge
2) The first motivator for Vincent is morality. I think due to his previous occupation as a Turk and What Happened With Keeping His Mouth Shut About Things He Didn't Agree With Until It Was Too Late, Vincent is moralistic and his decisions within FF7, AC, and Dirge revolve around morality. Vincent wants nothing to do with the WRO[1] and even after deciding to help, diverts from his missions to assist those in need- from WRO soldiers to defenseless civilians who have no bearing on his own objectives. Vincent refuses help, out of concern for other's survival.[2]
Vincent's second motivator is those he cares for. When "Reeve" is "killed", his concern is tangible. Vincent takes the time to rescue both Shelke and Yuffie from Nero's darkness when they are consumed by it even though he doesn't have to- and displays concern for Cid and Shelke when the Shera airship loses contact with the WRO. Furthermore, Vincent asks Cloud if he's okay. This may sound like nothing, but for Vincent, is a lot.
Vincent's third motivation is the desire to find the truth of the Nibelheim experiments. In Dirge, Vincent is plagued by dreams of Lucrecia experimenting on him, and following the first of these visions he informs Reeve that he is leaving to investigate Nibelheim. Vincent does not voice it specifically, but it is clear that this bothers him enough for him to at least temporarily abandon the WRO.
Honourable mentions go out to past motivators Vincent has got over by canonpoint: revenge against Hojo, and the urge to atone for his part in Sephiroth's creation. Neither of these things will matter very much to him at this point of Dirge (even though when it turns out Hojo is sort of alive, Vincent wants him dead) yet they deserve reference.
[1] "Reeve. I don't know what you're up to, but I want absolutely no part of it." - Vincent, Dirge
[2] "You heard what Cid said. Your job is to live. If you come with me, chances are you'll all die." - Vincent, Dirge
3) Past!Vincent has displayed a guilt complex for his involvement in the Jenova Project- or more accurately, his lack of involvement in stopping it. Throughout BC and FF7, Vincent believed that his decision to respect Lucrecia's autonomy in what happened to her and her unborn child was the reason that the Jenova Project went ahead, and when he did speak up it was too late.
Vincent regretted this to the point where he resolved to stay in the basement of the Shinra manor until the world ended, viewing the project as his "sin", his inhuman form as "punishment" and his isolation as "atonement", but from confronting Hojo and learning that Hojo himself was Sephiroth's father, has since moved away from this. This makes current regret a difficult question to answer considering that while he does have some regrets (Being unable to save Shalua) they're nothing compared to what he has faced in the past.
At point of canon, he believes he was experimented on by Lucrecia which has him much more moody and broody. That combined with Vincent's natural flaws such as a reticent and aloof nature can be offputting for those who do not know him well. His bluntness and rudeness, at points, certainly requires a lot of understanding, and I look forward to bouncing him against people that don't know him well enough to understand his quirks.
4) This man is 100% cat-coded. He does what he wants when he wants, and doesn't ask permission for anything. He's also very spooky.
Abilities & Inventory:
Note: If any form of nerf is required for any of these abilities, please have at. I've got absolutely no intention of, or investment in, making Vincent OP.
Genetic Augmentation:
Unlike a SOLDIER, Vincent displays absolutely no enchancement to his physical strength or endurance. Untransformed, he's somewhat frail, but he displays enhanced speed and agility, as well as strong regeneration capability. Vincent has been known to sleep off fatal injuries due to this. Vincent is also effectively immortal from the sense that he cannot naturally die, but can be killed.
Gunslinger:
Vincent is proficient with all forms of firearms, but favours the Cerberus (triple-barreled handgun) Hydra (triple-barreled sniper rifle) and the Griffon (triple-barreled machine gun) and I intend on taking each weapon into the game with him at base level and nerfing them by giving no modifications or augments. For his ammunition, he will begin with full magazines on each (18 bullets for Cerberus, 35 for Griffon, and 5 on Hydra) but will need to restock eventually. I'm hoping needing ammunition and going about getting it will lead to CR with other characters.
Materia Usage:
In FF7, Vincent's magic stat is second only to Aerith's- making him and extremely accomplished magic user. Personally, I view materia as a little bit gamebreaking so he will not have access to the higher end materia from FF7. I'm planning on keeping a Dirge approach to Materia- allowing him the use of the base levels of Fire, Thunder and Blizzard and nothing else. He'll have no curative spells, or anything that will enhance his fighting style. I plan to address MP as something recovered while he rests- giving each spell a once per day cast.
Shapeshifting:
Vincent is capable of transforming into a series of monsters when pressed. The Galian Beast uses its teeth and claws to attack, and has the capability to breathe fire. The Death Gigas can pummel a foe and can electrocute them. The Hellmasker uses a chainsaw against its enemies- and can inflict a variety of status effects on targets, including sleep and poison spells. It should be noted that Vincent cannot transform into these creatures at will. As a limit break, they are beholden to Vincent's stress levels- meaning he's going to have to go through quite a great deal of mental or physical suffering before being able to transform.
Shapeshifting: Chaos
Noted seperately because boy oh boy, this one's strong. Chaos is Vincent's ultimate form, and is capable of flight as well as summoning of the Death Penalty gun. I'd like to nerf Chaos by taking away its FF7 abilities, which can cause instant death to targets. Due to Vincent (at this canon point) having the Protomateria within him taken away, he will not be capable of controlling Chaos. Once again, as a Limit Break, Chaos cannot be used at whim. Furthermore, Vincent's got to have his ass beat for Chaos to happen.
Inventory:
The Cerberus, Hydra, and Griffon guns. A full clip of ammunition for each gun, at 18, 5, and 35 respectively. Five megapotions, one phoenix down, one ether. One Blizzard materia, One Thunder materia, One Fire materia.

ARMADA SELECTION
Paladin. I've come to this conclusion because (despite the flaws with it) the Paladin faction fits Vincent's moralistic nature, and while at a push (and if required), I can give him things to do in a Corsair alleigance (spy on the Corsair faction for his pals in the Paladins), I think Paladin gives him a better chance to succeed as an active character in this RP as he's not the sort of person that would focus on changing the Corsair faction from the inside out. He'd simply let it be, report back on it, and let it implode of its own accord- which, imo, won't give him any excuse to reach out to other characters and will be pretty boring to roleplay.

Questions: A few!
1: FF7 vs FF7 rebirth. As mentioned above, Vincent's core personality is a little more fleshed out in Rebirth as opposed to FF7 in the form of little quirks- such as having a whale of a time at scaring Barret, and generally being super into spooky things. (Which I think is a nod to his original character design but I digress.) I'm wondering if I can incorporate these quirks into him even though I'm taking him from FF7, because they're neat. Retcons FF7r brings in (Such as Vincent having opportunities to kill Sephiroth in the past but choosing not to) will be ignored.
2: Transformations, Materia, and tattoos. Just wondering if Vincent's transformations (given that they're genetically part of him) would require a tattoo to use. If so, it's nbd. I can make up some reason they're not working without one but clarity on it would be super appreciated bc i really don't know how to approach it.
With Materia, I have the same sort of question. Technically, a baby could use a common materia in FF7 (Its not like conventional magic that has to be learned or studied.) so I'm wondering if materia usage would be reliant on tats or not.

With Materia, I have the same sort of question. Technically, a baby could use a common materia in FF7 (Its not like conventional magic that has to be learned or studied.) so I'm wondering if materia usage would be reliant on tats or not.
